Pope Leo XIV will pay an official visit to Türkiye at the end of November. According to the schedule published by the Vatican, on 29 November 2025 the pontiff will visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul and hold a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. The programme includes a private conversation and the signing of a joint declaration, the contents of which have not been disclosed.

According to the official itinerary, Pope Leo XIV will also take part in an ecumenical prayer service in İznik — ancient Nicaea, the site of the First Council of Nicaea in AD 325. The pilgrimage marks the 1700th anniversary of the council.

The Pope’s journey will include stops in Ankara, Istanbul and İznik.
