German Bishop: Peace Proposals Promote Russia’s Position

Bishop Friedrich Kramer, the Evangelical Church in Germany’s (EKD) Commissioner for Peace, has expressed support for efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. However, he opposes proposals that “unilaterally promote Russia’s position”.

This was reported on the EKD website.

The bishop criticised a joint motion submitted to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) parties concerning Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

Kramer expressed regret that although the motion “talks a great deal about peace”, it “unilaterally promotes Russia’s position”.

“What is being proposed in this document is a self-serving peace. We, as the Evangelical Church, stand for a just peace,” the bishop added.

In his assessment, the issue of peace is a matter of concern for many residents of Saxony-Anhalt.

“No one can remain indifferent to the loss of life in Ukraine. Everyone is called upon to contribute to establishing peace in that country,” Kramer emphasised.
