The Conference of European Churches (CEC) has released the film Not Alone about how churches are confronting the “Russian World” ideology.

The film features contributions from participants in a conference held in Helsinki in December 2025 at the initiative of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and the Orthodox Church of Finland.

The film addresses the use of religion to justify war and imperial policies. CEC representative Katerina Pekridou stressed that when power is placed above the individual and religious language is used to justify violence, the church “must not remain silent” and is called upon to resist what destroys life.

The film also recalls the statement adopted in Helsinki, “Churches Confronting the Russian World Ideology.” It considers Russia’s war against Ukraine in connection with the “Russian World” ideology and challenges European churches to consider how genuine Christian values can be distinguished from religious rhetoric used to justify violence.

As LF reported, Helsinki hosted an ecumenical conference titled “Resisting Empire, Promoting Peace: Churches Confronting the Russian World Ideology” under the auspices of the Conference of European Churches, an organisation bringing together Orthodox, Protestant, Catholic and other churches.

The event took place December 1–3. Participants discussed contemporary challenges associated with the spread of the aggressive “Russian World” ideology and the threats it poses to EU countries and the Christian world as a whole.
