An unexpected trend has emerged in France in recent years: the number of baptisms among teenagers and young people has risen sharply.

This is reported in a France 24 report.

According to the outlet, more than 21,000 catechumens, people preparing to be baptized in the Christian Church, were registered in 2026. The figure has more than tripled over the past decade.

According to a survey conducted by the French Bishops’ Conference and the newspaper La Croix, nearly 20% of those preparing for baptism, known as catechumens, say that influencers, bloggers with audiences numbering in the tens of thousands on social media, played an important role in their spiritual search.

Earlier, we reported that, according to a new study conducted by the Danish Bible Society, a growing number of young Danes are taking an interest in matters of faith, reading the Bible and attending church services. The findings were presented in the report “God and the Danes: An Analysis of Faith 2026,” published in spring 2026. The study, based on a survey of 3,000 residents of Denmark, shows that religiosity among young people is noticeably higher than among older generations.

A study of more than 24,000 Christian churchgoers in the United States found an increase in church attendance five years after the pandemic. The report was prepared by Faith Communities Today as part of a project examining the impact of the pandemic on church communities.
